‼️ SAVE OUR CARE HOMES – GIVE OLDER PEOPLE THE DIGNITY THEY DESERVE ‼️ Derbyshire County Council is proposing closure of eleven of its care homes and eight day-services for older people, and a formal consultation is now underway. Briar Close House in Borrowash is a service in the firing line. The home is registered to accommodate up to 40 people, including those living with dementia. It is rated good for the quality and safety of its care by regulators, and it allows local people to receive care close to their community. The crisis in adult social care has worsened in recent years, with older people languishing in hospital while waiting for a place in a home. This also means people needing hospital care face longer waits. The Tory government has slashed billions from councils since it took charge in 2010, but Conservative mismanagement at county hall is also behind these threatened closures. Both the government and Derbyshire County Council’s Tory leaders must ensure our older people get the care they need, close to where they live. SIGN LABOUR’S SURVEY CALLING FOR A HALT TO THE PLANNED CLOSURES: survey.labour.org.uk/derbyshirecarehomes HOW WOULD LABOUR DELIVER FOR ADULT SOCIAL CARE? There will be full details in Labour’s manifesto about how Labour will tackle the crisis in adult social care. But the party is committed to multi-year funding settlements with councils to help them plan, rather than the single-year settlements there have been under the Tories. A Labour government will also deliver 40,000 extra NHS appointments a week, paid for by cracking down on tax avoidance and closing non-dom loopholes. This will help people recover faster, and ensure they are more likely to receive care in the right setting for their needs.
