I attended a Breadsall Parish Council meeting and spoke with residents and councillors.

They raised some important issues including flooding concerns, local government reorganisation and housing.

Since the parish council meeting, I have made sure that their concerns were represented at a roundtable on local councils with the Minister for Democracy.

These included the importance of local councils in building civic pride, the governance issues they face, and the lack of awareness locally and nationally of the important work they do. The minister was clear that decisions on Local Government Reform must follow local interests.

I will continue to support them, and I look forward to visiting all parish councils in Mid Derbyshire and hearing about the pivotal role they play in their communities.

It was a privilege to be invited as a panellist for Askonas Holt’s Sustainability in the Classical Music Industry event, on Earth Day.

That our musicians and bands can tour internationally, expanding the UK’s cultural capital across the world, is truly amazing and something we should appreciate.

To continue this into the future, it is important that we look to innovative strategies to make international touring more sustainable and less impactful to our environment – which is what the panel focused on.
