I was pleased to with meet Erewash Borough Council’s leaders recently – Councillor James Dawson and Councillor Rebecca Everett. I was also joined by Erewash MP, Adam Thompson. Following this, I also met with EBC Councillor Greg Maskalick, who is an independent councillor for Ockbrook and Borrowash. Part of the Mid Derbyshire constituency is served by Erewash Borough Council, and I am already working closely with the council to help it ensure residents have the services they need. Councils have faced huge cuts in recent years, so it is vital we grow the economy to help them sustain their services. It is also important we ensure councils get longer funding settlements from government. The previous government only provided one-year funding settlements, meaning it was hard for local authorities to plan and set budgets. Labour is committed to introducing three-year settlements.
