Thanks to everyone who came to the recent meeting about Derbyshire Community Transport, which was held in the Strutts Community Centre in Belper.
I was pleased to be on the panel with disability campaigner Siobhan Fennell alongside Linsey Farnsworth, MP for Amber Valley.
Derbyshire Community Transport is sadly in the process of closing down after many years of excellent service to the community.
The closure was prompted by Derbyshire County Council’s decision to use alternative providers for some of its transport contracts.

It was great to see such high turnout for protecting community services. I know just how valuable they are to those who use them, and this meeting only reinforced how important they are.
I am happy to hear that some of the community buses have been reinstated.
However, Belper Car Club – a car sharing scheme run by volunteers, but linked to Derbyshire Community Transport – remains at risk. If it cannot continue, this will impact local people, particularly wheelchair users. It is a matter of great concern, and I will assist in whatever way I can to keep it running.
