Today is World Cancer Day.
Thousands of people each year receive the devastating news that they have been diagnosed with a form of cancer. Urgent action is needed to improve survival rates, and early diagnosis is crucial.
The government is delivering an extra 40,000 operations, scans, and appointments each week in its Elective Reform Plan, which will help to address the continuing backlog of patients waiting for cancer treatment.
It has also pledged to double the number of CT and MRI scanners, which will help us catch cancer earlier and save more lives. Harnessing technology enhances our ability to fight the disease and transforms the way we deliver care to diagnose and treat cancers sooner.
The more we support our amazing frontline healthcare workers with the resources they need, the better our health outcomes will be.
