I met recently with Family Support Derbyshire, a service that helps build resilience and support networks for new parents and families.
Recently, many more new families have had to rely on their services. The previous government let early years support fall by the wayside. Eighty percent of parents say they have struggled to access parenting classes, infant feeding advice and better pregnancy support.
This new government has boosted investment into early years support by £126 million, with Derby expected to receive at least £1,338,300 through family hubs and the Start for Life programme.
The government has also introduced the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill, which takes pressure off parents by providing all children with free breakfast clubs and capping the cost of school uniforms.
Services like Family Support Derbyshire are staffed by amazing parents who are looking out for other parents, and provide them with the tools they need to give their children the best start in life. The new government is beginning to deliver change to ensure they are not acting alone.
