I met with William Rogers from East Midlands Railway to discuss train services in Mid Derbyshire.
I was pleased to hear about a range of new initiatives, including increasing the frequency of trains through Spondon and bringing forward free WiFi on the Matlock to Nottingham trains. They will also be putting fleets of new trains on our lines, such as Aurora and bi-mode trains, and that there will be more electrified routes.
I raised two important issues residents are concerned about. Duffield train station currently lacks accessibility, with only stairway access to the second platform. Additionally, many residents want to see more trains between Sheffield and London stopping at Belper.
These are not easy problems to solve but I will continue to make the case for both of them, both with EMR and with local, regional and national government.
With big changes to rail regulation and Great British Railways headquartered in Derby, local residents should expect to see clear improvements in their local services. I am looking forward to seeing these improvements here in Mid Derbyshire.
