from Jonathan Davies MP for Mid Derbyshire https://ift.tt/xaWEV7g
Congratulations to everyone elected to Derbyshire County Council yesterday.
Thanks also to everyone who put themselves forward, but who did not win on this occasion.
I will be writing to all new and returning county councillors covering Mid Derbyshire, inviting them to meet to discuss how I can work with them to serve local people.
I am pleased Labour’s Emma Monkman was elected to serve North Belper – a Labour gain from the Conservatives.
However, the council is now under the leadership of Reform UK.
I am unsure what that will mean for key issues.
This includes adult social care and the future of Belper’s Ada Belfield Centre, which was earmarked for sale or closure by the council’s previous Conservative leadership.
Other challenges include fixing failings in special educational needs provision for children and young people, and the upkeep of local roads – which also grew to being huge problems under the council’s previous Conservative leadership.
The Labour government is working hard and providing increased funding to councils to address these challenges. We now need to see Reform’s plan about how it will maximise this support locally.
With all best wishes to all Mid Derbyshire residents for the bank holiday weekend – Jonathan
