The past few days have been very busy with inductions in parliament. Some were on practical topics, such as familiarising new MPs with their IT and the geography of the parliamentary estate. Others were on topics unique to parliament – such as how to make contributions in the chamber. Perhaps most interestingly, however, were the seminars on standards and ethics. Many people told me ahead of the election that they were turned off by politics because of the scandals and malpractice we have seen in recent years. This must stop, and I am confident it will because of the high standards demanded by our new prime minister and his team. Earlier today, I took the oath of allegiance. All MPs, either new or returning, must take the oath or secular affirmation before formally taking their seat. They can then speak in the chamber on issues that matter to the people they are elected to serve. You can view a clip of me taking the oath on this post. If you have contacted me lately, please bear with me while I work through all the letters, messages and emails. I do not currently have an office or any administrative support – but I will respond to everyone who has been in touch as soon as I can. Emails can be sent to my new address: jonathan.davies.mp@parliament.uk
